Overview

Saint Petersburg is a very young city in comparison with old European capitals and probably the only city in the world that has acquired so much historic significance in such a short time.
After the huge megapolis' visit it's nice to compare densely forested and gloriously remote Karelia, the region is a paradise for nature lovers. If you’re looking for wilderness, powerful history and even the Finnish soul, your search should start here.

City tour

Can you describe Saint Petersburg in one word? Which word will it be? Grandeur? Gloomy? Strange? Or maybe mysterious? The truth is that it is impossible to describe St Petersburg in one word as well as it is hard to describe this city without losing some important points. That`s why it is better to see and feel this city by yourself. And one of the greatest ways of doing this is taking a city tour. On the board of a comfortable tourist bus you will experience unforgettable emotions as you will discover more and more about the glorious city of Peter the Great. You will immerse yourself in intriguing stories and have an opportunity to take beautiful pictures of the main architectural and historical sights of the city such as Nevsky Prospect, Kazan Cathedral, the Winter Palace, Vasilyevsky Island, St. Isaac`s Cathedral, the Peter and Paul Fortress, Senate Square and Palace Square.

Excursion to Peter and Paul Fortress

The cradle of Saint-Petersburg – Peter and Paul fortress is located on Hare Island. It was founded in 1703 and it’s the historical core of St. Petersburg. Its architect was the famous Domenico Trezzini, who made a significant contribution to the beginning of the building and urban design of St. Petersburg.

Despite being a fortress it is noteworthy that Peter and Paul fortress did not take part in hostilities during the entire history of its existence. It was used mainly as a political prison and some of the Decembrists as well as famous people such as Dostoevsky, Chernyshevsky and others were imprisoned here in different periods of time. Nowadays it is a house for different museums such as Peter and Paul Cathedral – the tallest building in the city center and the burial place of Russian emperors – the Grand Ducan Mausoleum and the Museum of History of Saint-Petersburg. All these sights make Peter and Paul Fortress be worth visiting.

Free time for lunch (1h)

Excursion to the State Hermitage (Main Building)

The Alpha and the Omega of Saint Petersburg – the Hermitage.

This palace is infamous for its long queues as well as it is praised a lot for the gorgeous interiors and incredible pieces of art that are housed here. Many tourists come to St Petersburg simply to visit the Hermitage and some people say that visiting all of its 350 exhibition rooms would entail a walk of over 10 km. It was once calculated that it would take over 9 years if you just have a look at every item.

The Hermitage is a house for remarkable examples of Italian High Renaissance art as well as unique collections of paintings by Rembrandt, the vast collection of Dutch and Flemish masters, fabulous treasures from Siberia and Central Asia, Egyptian and classical antiques, Persian and Chinese artworks and many other exhibits.

Furthermore, the interiors of the Winter Palace themselves can be described as a piece of art with its luxurious state rooms, where Tsars held court and the Provisional Government was arrested by the Bolsheviks. This palace witnessed many historical events within its walls and you will be able to feel the spirit of that time there.

Excursion to Peterhof (Grand Palace and Lower Park)

Located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, 34 km from the Saint Petersburg, Peterhof looks as if it were from a fairytale book or some epic novel of past centuries. There are a lot of vast parks, graceful sculptures, grandeur palaces and mind-blowing fountains. Thousands of people from all corners of the Earth come to Russia in order to witness it.

Once Peter the Great travelled to Versailles and got impressed by the greatness and beauty of this palace. Then he decided that Russia should have something as great as Versailles within its borders, but that time it wasn’t possible – the Russian Empire was at war against the Kingdom of Sweden. Time passed, the war was over and later the magnificent and enchanting Peterhof was constructed as a grandiose triumphal monument glorifying the greatness of Russia and the victory in the Great Northern War. Even now the glory of this palace shines and overwhelms its visitors, and you can become one of them by paying a visit to a former summer residence of House Romanov.

Free time for lunch (1h)

Excursion to St. Isaak’s Cathedral

It is impossible to imagine Saint Petersburg without its biggest Orthodox Cathedral as well as it is unthinkable to stay in this city without visiting it – the magnificent and outstanding St. Isaac`s Cathedral.

One of the most famous and recognizable structures of St. Petersburg has always been and remains shrouded in mystery. From a mysterious death of the main architect to a strange connection between its construction and the fate of the Romanov house, this Cathedral is a unique place in every aspect. The cathedral's facades are decorated with sculptures and massive granite columns, while the interior is adorned with incredibly detailed mosaic icons, paintings and columns made of malachite and lapis lazuli.

But that's not all – this place offers you an opportunity to climb atop the cathedral’s colonnade to discover one of the most magnificent views in the whole city.
